Join us for a special teacher night in the exhibit “Murmur.” Murmur will be an installation by artist John Grade, combining kinetic sculpture with a mixed-reality holographic experience, placing visitors within an Arctic landscape. The exhibition is jointly organized by the Anchorage Museum and Mystic Seaport. Murmur is based on the exploration of an Arctic landform called pingos—ice mounds rising from permafrost soil that grow over centuries on the tundra, and then collapse, leaving scars on the land. They have historically served as landmarks and vantages for Inuit hunters and predators like wolves and polar bears. Scientists study pingos using ground-penetrating radar and ice coring but understanding of the phenomenon remains limited. Learn more about Murmur here.
