About this Lesson

An inquiry-based lesson plan that aims to examine what was/is the purpose of whaling, and how was whaling important to America through the examination of historic maps and the creation of new maps.  This plan provides historical background information for the whaling industry, and allows students to make global connections to resources and energy use.  This lesson is intended for grades 4-8, but may be modified for other grades or levels.
