Program Title: Build a Bat House with Shipwright Tom Daniels
Age Recommendation: Upper Elementary through Adult
Program Description:
Bats eat LOTS of bugs, sometimes consuming 25% of their body weight each night! This not only makes your yard more pleasant in the summer, but they can help reduce the number of pests that attack your garden. In this class, Shipwright Tom Daniels will show you how to build a simple 3-chamber bat roosting box using simple tools and materials. The most expensive tools will be a circular saw and hand drill. Along the way, we’ll answer woodworking questions and talk about cool bat facts with one of our educator friends from the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center. If you’re new to woodworking, this might give you the confidence to try more ambitious projects in the future . . . maybe build your own boat one day!
