Box Made of Abalone, Ivory, and Baleen

Box made of abalone, ivory, and baleen; made by Captain John R. Stivers on shipboard, possibly as early as 1860.  Stivers was master of New Bedford whaling ship Cicero in 1860. Cover has mirror inside; dark green velvet lining; four distinctive flower designs, one in each corner and one daisy type in center of lid. Four bone feet support the box.
