Scrimshaw whale tooth in color by N.S. Finney. "Battle of Lake Erie - Perry's Victory." While the principal picture on the companion tooth is after a print by N. Currier, the source of this naval engagement has not yet been identified. Verso: A bust portrait labeled "Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry" (1785 - 1819), copied from an engraving by John B. Forrest (1814-1870) after a portrait by John Wesley Jarvis (1781 - 1839), c. 1818; printed in the British edition of James Fenimore Cooper's "History of the Navy" (London: Richard Bentley, 1839).
