Applique Quilt Made by Mary Rathbun Stark, 1856

Hand appliqued quilt, made by Mary Rathbun Stark, wife of Captain H. S. Stark.  The quilt was made on board the clipper ship B. F. Hoxie, 1856.  There are four panels of squares with a floral wreath of red flowers and green leaves on a white background.  Each square is bordered by three strips of material, two green with middle one of red.  At the corners are patterned squares at diagonal on white background.  There is red edging and the reverse has red flowers on white background; floral pattern quilting.
