This 19th century ceramic platter featurs a painting which depicts the harbor of Fayal in the Azores.  Fayal is home to Horta, one of the most frequented harbor cities in the Azores during the 19th century.  The island lies directly on the trans-Atlantic route, and was a popular stop-over location for whalers, where they could pick up supplies and additional crew members.
