Globalization and Mercantilism

Painting Analysis

Present students with the painting of Canton.  Have them complete an analysis of the painting, using the worksheet found in the sidebar.  After completion of the worksheet, begin a classroom discussion.  Ask students the following questions:

-Who created the painting?
-What flags can be seen?
-What styles of architecture are represented?
-By looking at the painting, what might one infer about cultural contact, the meshing of cultures, and imperialism?
