Literary Exploration

Explore the maritime tradition of gamming as referenced in Moby-Dick.  Explore the nine examples of where this is referenced, and how the idea of gamming is significant within the story.

Classroom Discussion

Life onboard a whaling ship was very different from life on land.  What unique objects were created specifically for those who lived onboard a ship?  What occurred during leisure time?  How did sailors communicate with those back home?
