About Laurie Hartnett
Laurie Hartnett teaches 8th grade Social Studies at Mystic Middle School in the Stonington School System. She has taught 7th and 8th grade Language Arts and Social Studies there for twenty years. In addition to teaching 20th Century U.S. History and World Geography, she facilitates debate and public speaking and has been involved in many technology and educational programs and committees.
Her educational background includes a bachelor’s degree from Connecticut College in psychology and a Masters degree in Industrial Relations from Purdue University and her CT. certification as a middle school educator. She is thrilled to be teaching U.S. History and making learning come alive for her students as they examine artifacts and appreciate the value of primary source documents. She is especially excited to be a part of Mystic Seaport’s Online Community of Educators and its initial focus group, which examined how Mystic Seaport could expand its world-class educational facility and its incredible resources to teachers all over the world.
In her spare time Laurie loves to spend time with her three grandchildren – especially to explore Mystic Seaport! She also loves to play tennis and take her dog out for long walks!
