About Mimi Houston
Mimi Houston teaches kindergarten at Highville Charter School in Hamden, CT. She has a passion for the natural world, and enjoys bringing her love of nature and art into the classroom. Her students can often be seen creating stick mobiles, arranging mosaics of beach pebbles and collaging with nature's treasures collected on exploration walks. She is committed to providing meaningful experiences with the outdoors for even the youngest students.
Mimi has a B.A. in journalism and a M.S.Ed. from Southern Connecticut State University. She is a certified children's yoga teacher and regularly uses American Sign Language (ASL) in her daily classroom practices. Her love of Mystic Seaport began as a young child, and has continued through regular visits to this day. She is thrilled and honored to be part of this respected, hard-working and passionate group of educators.
Mimi lives in North Haven with her husband Marc and three sons, Jake, Tucker and Miles. They all share a love of the sea and history, music, three silly cats and a huge, fluffy dog. Mimi loves to garden, photograph her family and the natural world, paint and continually learn new things.
