About Sandra Nichols
Sandy Nichols is a middle school educator at Smith Middle School in Glastonbury, CT. Since being hired by Glastonbury Public Schools she has taught mathematics, Life Science, Earth science and Concepts of Physics courses at the middle school level. At the building level she serves as team leader, member of the technology and professional development committees. Through a partnership with UCONN she has been the liaison for the clinic teachers as well as a member of a NGSX pilot program. She is also advises the Middle School Science bowl team and the Glastonbury High School First Robotics Club, Team 2170: Titanium Tomahawks. Within the district she has led many professional discussions about the use of technology in the classroom, and encourages staff and students to share thier knowledge through various learning styles. At the district levels she serves as a member of the Teacher Evaluation and Professional Development committees.
In 2015 she was selected as Glastonbury's teacher of the year and one of the 14 CT state semifinalists. As part of her experience she participated in a 3 day professional development experience at Mystic Seaport. The education department open their archives and facilities to the semifinalist to truly experience the wonderful educational experiences the seaport has to offer. She hopes students can experience factors that affect motion while learning about the life of a sailor.
