The Global Biological Context of Maritime History

Classroom Activity & Demonstration

As a class, students venture outside to search the local area for invasive species, photographing and taking location notes along the way.  Back in the class, the group will identify and discuss the the plants/animals and how they might have been introduced to the area.

Research Project

After completing the above classroom activity/demonstration, have students pick an invasive species to research and write and present about.  Students must note thier sources and answer the following questions.

Where did the invasive species originally come from?

How did the invasive species come to this area?

What measures, if any, are being taken to control the species' population growth?
