Whaling History

Research Project

After learning about what whale oil and whalebone (baleen) were originally used for, have students determine what products have since been used to replace them. Findings can be presented in a written format or through a poster or PowerPoint.

Standard 7 (Grade 6) Integrate information presented in different media or formats (e.g., visually, quantitatively) as well as in words to develop a coherent understanding of a topic or issue.

Standard 8 (Grade 6) Trace and evaluate the argument and specific claims in a text, distinguishing claims that are supported by reasons and evidence from claims that are not.

Standard 1 (Grades 9-10) Cite specific textual evidence to support analysis of primary and secondary sources, attending to such features as the date and origin of the information.
